Solar Shuttle, the Serpentine

The Solar Shuttle carries 42 passengers and is powered by two engines allowing it to cruise at 4mph across the Serpentine. A similar boat powered by a diesel engine could produce up to 2900lbs of CO2 per annum.

Flybe - eco labels

Flybe have introduced a range of labels which illustrate how much CO2 is produced by the type of aircraft and distance flown (opens as a PDF and it’s quite a large file).

Virgin Green Fund

Following on from the Virgin post below - they have also committed $400 million to the Virgin Green Fund which will invest in the renewable energy and resource efficiency sectors in Europe and the United States. They have, for example, invested in Gevo who develop bio fuel .

Virgin Bio Fuel

Virgin Atlantic are planning to run a trial in 2008 where a 747 is powered by bio fuel. I understand that Virgin are working with Boeing and GE Aviation.

Eurostar - the green train

I was lucky enough to be invited on Eurostar’s first journey from St Pancras International station to Paris and to a lunch hosted by Friends of the Earth. The new high speed route knocks approximately 15 minutes off of the old journey time.

Tim Harvey - human powered travel

Tim Harvey, traveller/explorer, under ‘human power’ has travelled around the world. Starting and finishing in Vancouver Tim Harvey took two and a half years to travel through five continents and across two oceans only using bicycles, rowing boats, canoes and rafts.
